Hello everyone! My name is Fides Lapidaire and I am a social designer and an artist and two years ago I started ‘broodje poep’. My graduation project is broodje poep. I started to get interested in the functions that pee and poop and that is why my graduation project was about this subject. Fides tested her innovation at the festival Welcome to the Village.
Two years ago I started broodje poep, because of my graduation project. Broodje poep serves delicious sandwiches. The ingredients of this sandwiches are grown on compost of human poop and pee. Broodje poep is going to festivals to create awareness to the festival visitors of the value that we create and flush every day.
What did you wanted to test?
I tested the broodje poep vehicle on the festival Welcome to the Village to investigate people’s reaction. I was curious what people thought about it because if it a weird topic for people to talk about. Some people were really enthusiastic and other were kind of awkward to talk about their own poop and pee. I learned that it is hard for people to talk about it and that we have to make it a normal topic instead of an awkward one. You can really see the struggle of people here.
What are your plans for the future?
After a crowdfunding we are busy with making a documentary about broodje poep. I am really excited about this new project we are working on and I cannot wait to show it to everyone in the end of this year.
Covid-19
Everyone experiences negative consequence due to the corona-virus. A lot of festivals and events where we should be, were cancelled. On the other hand, we had the time to start with the documentary so that was something we were busy with.
A piece of advice
You shouldn’t have a lot of expectations. Maybe you have something in your mind but it can be changed during testing on a festival. It is still a prototype so you shouldn’t be worried about that the product isn’t totally finished yet. You have to keep surprising yourself by opinions of other people!
